Monday 28th April
U15's 3 - 1 Clyde Cumbernauld
Paisley were hosts to Clyde for this league game and the Saints were looking for a little bit of revenge after narrowly losing 2-1 away in a game that should have been won last time out.
The Saints continued from where they left off at the weekend against Drumchapel and carried the same positive attitude onto the park. The Paisley coaches had to juggle the team about due to injuries and without their recognised keeper due to exams they were still confident of getting a result.
From the kick off Clyde knew they were in a game with the home team continually pushing to get that all important first goal. The home support didn’t have to wait long when a beautifully weighted pass from Aileen Magee to Louise Fagan in the 10th minute saw her drill the ball low and hard into the Clyde net. Fagan was instrumental in the midfield and she obliged her forwards in the 18th minute when she put through Stephanie Knox who converted the opportunity to put Paisley 2 up.
Clyde were camped in there own half with the sustained Paisley pressure and Nicole Howie could have had 3 herself with powerful drives which saw the ball just past each post by inches.
The midfield of Stephanie Brown, Karla Palmer and Amy Lyndsay all contributed in supplying the forwards with chance after chance with composed one touch football but on the 23rd minute the Clyde striker who was clearly a yard offside ran through on the Saints keeper with the opportunity to pull one back for the away team. Temporary keeper, Hannah Gilchrist rushed out and fouled her in the box conceding a penalty kick. From the spot kick, the Clyde striker saw her shot come off the bar and thus cleared by the Paisley defence.
The Saints defence of Angela McPhee, Debbie Magee, Stephanie Snowdon and Aileen Magee were in no mood to allow the Clyde forwards to settle and made every ball theirs. Some great individual battles took place with Clyde playing with 3 forward but the Saints defence came out on top every time. McPhee who hasn’t had a regular first team position definitely showed the Paisley coaches how hungry she was to prove she deserved that start in this game and gave them something to think about with the Newburgh game coming up.
Half time 2 - 0
The second half continued as the first with the Saints going looking for that all important third goal and it came 23 mins in when Howie was fouled on the left. Some quick thinking, saw her play a short pass to Brown who thundered a high drive over the keepers head. More chances came and went for the home team and were unfortunate not to add a further 4 to their tally.
Saints coaches then rested Fagan for Eilidh Graham who came on and contributed well up front. Saints thought the game was done and dusted but with 2mins left Clyde won a Paisley throw in. The winger then crossed it to the Clyde striker who converted low under Glchrist’s body.
Full time Paisley 3 - Clyde Cumbernauld 1
Both Paisley coaches were delighted with this performance and must give a special thanks to Hannah for going between the sticks.
Well done to everyone.
