Drumchapel 3 - 3 U15's

Paisley travelled to local rivals Drumchapel to play in this fixture that had been postponed on no less than 5 occasions due to bad weather and were confident of going home with the 3 points.

From the start both Paisley coaches could see that every player was up for it and with this positive attitude they didn’t let them down. Paisley bombarded the home team from the whistle and were rewarded after 13 minutes when an inch perfect ball was played through by Stephanie Knox to Stephanie Brown on the left. She didn’t disappoint the away support and ran through on goal and thundered the ball into the top left hand corner giving the home keeper no chance. Paisley 1-0 up.

Their lead was short lived though and after 23 minutes Drumchapel’s main striker sprung the offside trap to run through and score.

Half time 1 - 1

In the first half it was a day of missed chances for the Paisley side that could have easily been ahead by the odd goal in 4 but every shot seemed to fall into the home keeper’s arms. Drumchapel also had chances but great defensive performances from Stephanie Snowdon, Amy Easdon and both Debbie and Aileen Magee kept them to a minimum.

The second half started as the first with both teams going for the lead and it was Paisley who won the battle when a terrific run from midfield by Hannah Gilchrist saw her end up at the corner flag. She beat her opposite number and from the tightest of angles, drove the ball hard and low between the keeper and the goals and into the net.

Shortly after this, three out of the four Paisley defenders where taken off injured. Gilchrist (knee), Easdon (ankle) and Snowdon (groin). The Paisley coaches had to shuffle the team about after this blow and before Paisley could settle, Drumchapel scored their equaliser against the run of play after some magnificent saves from Caitlin McDonald.

Not to be outdone, Paisley again took the game by the scruff of the neck with excellent wing play from Nicole Howie and Stephanie Knox. Midfielders Louise Fagan and Amy Lyndsay did a power of running and made some strong challenges for which Fagan received a yellow.

Paisley’s 3rd goal came when Howie was fouled on the right and from her spot kick she floated a beautiful ball to the back post and this was converted by Brown on the run. Paisley had thought they had done enough to win the game and take all 3 points home but on the stroke of full time Drumchapel received a free kick which was put through the defence and the Drumchapel striker hit the ball high over McDonalds head.

Full time 3 - 3

On reflection, both Paisley coaches were delighted with the team performance in a game that was end to end action and that really neither team deserved to lose.
