Saturday 19th April
U15's 0 - 4 Celtic
The visitors came to Paisley full of confidence on the back of their 10-1 win over Paisley in the league cup, but, with our goalkeeper back between the sticks for this league match, Paisley were more confident that they could turn the last result around. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be on this cold and blustery day as Celtic ran out 4-0 winners.
The game started off at a fast moving pace that left Paisley struggling but after 10 minutes the home team got into their stride and where competing well in every department.
Celtic’s first goal game from a rare defensive error that Celtic took full advantage of and drove the ball low and hard into the left hand corner.
Paisley picked themselves up from this and took the game to Celtic with strong performances in midfield from Louise Fagan and Aileen Magee.
Defensively Debbie Magee, Hannah Gilchrist, Amy Easdon and Stephanie Snowdon battled hard and didn’t make it easy for the Celtic strikers.
Most of Celtics play came down the wings and their second goal came from a free kick after a Paisley foul. The ball was whipped in at pace and converted with a well placed header.
2-0 at half time to the visitors but the Paisley coaches were still confident that this could be turned around in the second half.
Some fast wing play from Stephanie Knox, Nicole Howie, Stephanie Brown and Angela McPhee almost produced a goal when the Celtic keeper miss kicked her clearance, the ball fell to Aileen Magee who immediately shot for goal seeing the keeper off her line but with the uneven park the ball took a slight bobble and the shot went wide.
Another chance came quickly for Paisley after putting continuous pressure on the visitor’s defence, but it was one of those days where the ball just wouldn’t run for the home side. Chasing the game, Paisley threw everything forward, In doing this it left us open at the back. Celtic capitalized on this and scored a further 2 goals.
4 Goals doesn’t reflect the game and the effort put in from the home team.
Eilidh Graham was rested for the day after recovering from a back injury.
On another day things could have been different for the home side but it just wasn’t to be.
