Lanarkshire United 9 - 2 U15's

Paisley travelled to Motherwell in the first of a double header that will see an end to their season. If Paisley could have taken 6 points then it would have secured them a creditable 3rd place in the league but the first of their 2 games didn’t go according to plan.

Paisley conceded their first goal of 9 after only 30 seconds when the Motherwell striker ran through on goal but was clearly 2 yards off side. This set the tone for the whole of the match when the referee made one mistake after another (I have to watch what I am saying here).

By the end of the first half Motherwell were 6 up with no reply. A score line that didn’t reflect this game.

The team were dejected but not just with the referee’s decisions but with each other and this led to disharmony within the squad. After a half time team talk that was much needed to clear the air, the girls got their heads down and eventually started playing some nice football. Although the game was perhaps out of their reach by this time, it was all about making the score line a bit more respectable.

Paisley were eventually rewarded within 5 minutes of the restart when an inch perfect cross from Nicole Howie to the back post which saw Stephanie Brown convert with a superb header.

Paisley doubled their tally after 10 minutes when Louise Fagan won the ball in midfield, it broke to Howie who blistered a 25 yard shot by the Motherwell keeper. The game turned into what then became a lot of missed chances for both sides but Motherwell capitalised and Paisley didn’t.

There’s not much more I can really say about this game other than this. It won’t be 9 – 2 when Motherwell travel for the return.

Team: Caitlin McDonald, Debbie Magee, Stephanie Snowdon, Hannah Gilchrist, Aileen Magee, Amy Easdon, Nicole Howie ( 1 ), Louise Fagan, Amy Lindsay, Stephanie Brown ( 1 ), Stephanie Knox and Angela McPhee.
