Match Report Saturday 14/03/10 Hello to all the girls and supporters. Second game of the new season, away to Motherwell at Wilshaw sports club. On arrival and during our pre-match warm up we were hopeful of winning the flip of the coin and take advantage of the strong wind which was blowing down the slight run on the park, however it was not to be. Motherwell won the advantage and played the first half with the wind on their side. Throughout the whole team and right from the start all girls displayed a very good account of themselves. Both coaches asked the girls before kick off to keep the ball low during the first half and keep their discipline. We were pinned back in our own half for pretty much the whole of the first half. After 20 minutes of strong defending Motherwell were awarded a free kick just outside our box which their No 10 struck into the top left corner, seven minutes later Motherwell got their second. Ten minutes before half time Paisley’s right back ( Debbie McGee ) had to come off the field of play with a blooded nose after a strong challenge. HALF TIME ( Motherwell 4 - Paisley Saints Girls 0 ) In the second half we were sure with the wind advantage we could pin Motherwell into their half and pressure their goal mouth. After 10 minutes into the half, we pressured and had all 11 Motherwell players playing in their own half. Fifteen minutes into the second half Emily McLaughlan popped up with a powerful right foot strike which flew across the keeper and into the top right hand corner of the net. Paisley constantly applied pressure on the Motherwell defence unfortunately with no luck in front of goal, but coming close on a couple of occasions. In the last 5 minutes of play the Motherwell striker ran through to score the last goal of the match. The girls showed some lovely link-up play and pleasing passing good team spirit. There was a very pleasing aspect and some positives during the game and if the girls show the desire and commitment in future games we are sure that the goals will come.
