Match Report Sunday 9/05/10

NOT QUITE THERE YET!

Away : League game away to Glasgow Ladies.

This game was to be a lesson in just what it is going to take to stay in the ladies  second division, Glasgow Ladies showed our girls all the qualities that are required if you want to play & compete in the SWFL.

PSGFC were bossed around the pitch, they looked very disjointed and the flowing passing moves we had been used to watching over the last few weeks were no where to be seen on this day.

In the first 10 minutes Glasgow got the opening goal a well worked move from mid-field with a pass splitting the central defence & Glasgow’s nippy centre forward ran through to slot the ball in the back of the Paisley goal, on the 22nd minute Glasgow grabbed their second again the Glasgow striker got through and was one on one with the Paisley keeper “JILL“.  Jill saved the first shot with a fine stretching save only for the ball to be picked back up by the striker who fired into an open goal.

Paisley seemed to get a wake up call at that point taking the ball quickly back to centre eager to pull back Glasgow lead. We managed to pass the ball around for the first time in the match & it seemed to get Glasgow frustrated and you could see that they were being pushed back. With some great tricky wing play & coming inside Nicole Goodwin opened the Paisley scoring in the 30th minute. With 15 minutes remaining in the first half we were taking the game to Glasgow pressing for the equaliser. We managed to play some good football keeping the ball with some lovely passing and coming close to scoring a couple of times. On the break and on the 38th minute Glasgow scored their 3rd, again their striker was one on one with Jill who shut the striker down stopping a  shot at goal and  was very brave diving to the feet of the striker just getting a stretched out hand to the ball, unfortunately for Paisley the defence were just not quick enough getting back & the striker jumped to her feet quickest slotting the ball into the back of our net.

HALF TIME : Glasgow Girls - 3 Paisley Saints Girls - 1

We had come off the field of play tired and looking defeated, both coaches asked the girls to show the same commitment, desire and hunger they were showing in the last 15 minutes of the first half and take it into the second half. Nicole Goodwin & Steph Snowdon both were carrying knocks, both said they were fine so started the second half.

Straight from the off Glasgow pressed the ball shutting Paisley down & putting in some tough tackles, the bit was in their teeth & they had one thing in mind to pin us back and not let us have the ball. They bossed us for most of the second half scoring a selection of goals ( 5 in total ). We managed to pull one back on the 57th minute Nicole Howie coming in from the right rifling a low shot under the keeper.

FULL TIME : Glasgow Girls - 8 Paisley Saints Girls - 2

The girls were disappointed with the way this game went and in how they applied themselves as a team on the park, it showed them just what is required  to compete in the SWFL this season and seasons to come.

We had our warm down after the game as we always do, took time to reflect on the game & both coaches got some good positive feedback on how we can apply ourselves better on match day and at training. Yes the girls were gutted as were the coaches, but we have the quality’s in our squad to work hard learn from each game and improve.

This is just another learning curve for us and as long as we are all up for the challenge, work together at training & on match day I have no doubt we will
get our just reward.
