Saturday 7th March 2010 Big welcome back to all the girls and supporters. With the start of a new season upon us the girls were showing some nerves as well as the coaches and our supporters. Dumfries had travelled up for their first match of the season versus the new team in the league. They did look good enough and gave us a fight in the first 5 minutes where they came close a couple of times, however even with it being the first game of the season, Jill back in between the sticks showing how good a keeper she is with her strong hands and good positioning nothing was getting by her. Throughout the whole team all girls displayed a very good account of themselves, we saw some lovely moves and passes, we put Dumfries under pressure and pinned them back most of the half resulting in corner after corner and a few free kicks. One free kick about 20 minutes into the game was about 25 yards out, Nicole Howie struck a powerfull shot which struck the bar (with another in the second half). Just 10 minutes later Nicole Goodwin pounced on a weak kick out from the Dumfries keeper to score the first goal of the match in 30 minutes, 8 minutes later Emily McLaughlan picked up the ball about 35 yards out passed two players then lifted the ball over the keeper into the back of the net. In the second half we had a team change, injured Claire McCafferty was replaced by Rebecca Kitchen who took up right mid position and Emily went to left back. 10 minutes into the second half we were forced into another change with Amy Easton coming off with an injury to her foot, Steph Snowdon replaced her at the centre of defence. Dumfries displayed a very good account of themselves, well organised and good passing of the ball, Paisley saints striker Jennifer Brogan fought tirelessly through this match taking a few knocks from a strong tough tackling defence. Dumfries pulled back a goal within the first twenty minutes of the second half, our girls were showing signs of frustration and fatigue with some tired legs, however they kept their team spirit up and some good passing and keeping possession. With 15 minutes to go and continuous pressure on our defence Dumfries were fighting hard and getting most of the breaks, Emily McLaughlan was replaced by Natalya Correia. Final score 2-4 Well done to all 14 girls, you did yourselves and the club proud. |
